I´m a new Mauser 98K fan. Always I liked that rifle and finally have decided to take a nice piece of history.
I have spent several weeks searching for a German 98k rifle. First thought in purchasing it in the Mitchell´s Mauser website and looks like he has a really nice rifles... but he don´t wants to sell overseas.
Here in Spain there is also a little market for this rifles. Looks like most of their are the Preduzece 44 captured a remanufactured by Zastava. Much other are M48.
Looks like since I posted a WTB post in a Spanish forum the luck smiles me.
A guy has offered me a 100% german 98K without Yugoslavian markings and with all the Nazi markings. Awesome since this is the first one I watch 100% german marked.
Every part has a matching serial number however the number in the rear sight base has a different one. Other than the sight all parts matches. Did I should worry about the mismatching in that sight? I ask because I´m very fussy with the collectables and would love to own one with all the same numbers but becuase all I have readed it is frequent 98K rifles with parts mismatching in serial numbers.
The rifle likes me a lot and I think I´ll be able "to live" with that sight. Maybe it broke and it was swapped from a rifle for spares in the past... who knows. This rifle came from Germany not too time ago.
Another issue is a pair of screwed drills. Do you think I will be able to find a scope mounts with a 100% fitting in the same place? I assume I should make another two screwed drills in the other end of the action. Both holes are covered with black soft cement (removable).
Owner has told me the rifle was made in 1943.
Here there are some more pictures:
I´d be gratefull to listen your opinion.
Thanks.
Daniel
