This forum came up as a search result during my k98 Mauser research, and it looks like there are many knowledgable contributers here. I have always found
great fascination in world history and am an IDPA competition shooter. Learning about and collecting the firearms that shaped history seems to be the perfect
union of my two strongest interests. I have come across a Russian captured k98 Mauser that looks to be in good condition. The rifle has 90% bluing, a nicely
worn stock, and a good barrel. I bought some Sellier & Bellot 7.92x57 cartridges and plan to shoot it in a month or so after I finish cleaning and
inspecting everything. I believe it was made at the Steyr Daimler Puch factory (Steyr, Austria) in 1940. The matching serial numbers on the stock and receiver
are consistent with the date and location of manufacture. I am really excited about getting into milsurp. I can just imagine the rifle being made, perhaps as
the Germans enter Paris, or possibly as the Battle of Britain raged on. Perhaps it was captured in the fall of '42 during Stalingrad - who knows. If only
this gun could talk...
I just wanted to introduce myself before I started barging my way into other threads. ![]()
