My FAL target rifle |

This rifle is heavy but shoots VERY well. Floated handguard and a tight chamber with trigger work makes for a good combination. The longer India buttstock
makes the rifle's 'hold' from the bench or prone a little easier for me. Will put a single hole in the target all day long if I do my job and use
168gr or lighter match bullets out to 200yd. I really wanted it to reach out to 500yd with that accuracy but it's just not up to the task or I just need to
do some more handloads for the rifle.

...oops, forgot to add that I built that rifle on an Imbel receiver. Also, the date stamp is not correct...I just took that pic today.

Okay. That's enough. You're making me drool all over myself now.

Things are so darn slow around here and Nothernug may have something by putting up some pics. Get some kind of action going even if it's just
show-and-tell. I don't know why the parkerizing looks so light in the pic of the FAL...it matches much better than the pic shows.

My fal target rifle | ||
Got to put my two cents worth in. I have owned and operated all
the rifles discussed above and as far as I am concerned the FAL is in last place. The one I owned and several I have shot all had poor trigger pulls and the
rifles were heavy and awkward in my hands. The M1 garand and the M14 are both excellent rifles and to me are so similar as to wonder why the discussion of
which is best. In a straight military configuration they both perform about the same whith a slight edge on firepower to the M14. In match shooting the
accurasized M14 will out perform to a small degree an accuasized M1 (this is based on my experience with two NM M1s and 4 NM M14s) However the difference is
only splitting hairs. Which would I pick? The M14 every time. Would I feel depressed with an M1 or a FAL? No but I would be looking for an M14. As to lead
bullets in an M1 Carbine. I have fired litterally thousands of them and never had a problem with the gas system leading so forget about that old wives
tail..

I don't agree on the FAL being in last place for what the mentioned rifles were made for. They are battle rifles and accuracy over function just does not
get it in a war zone. I'm not saying that the M1 or M1A have or had any function problems...not saying that at all. But when it comes to clearing jams and
getting the guts out of the rifle, the FAL is the most simple of them all. You don't have the long op-rod to deal with on the FAL and the bolt does not
have that little 'sweet spot' to come out of or go back into. All of the mentioned rifles need some tweaking to get the best of accuracy out of them
and the FAL falls short for after market accuracy parts. Springfield Armory ships out rifles that are very accurate right out of the box, but the M14 was not
issued that way in general. I had an FAL that would hang right up with any M1A that I have ever shot, but it burnt up in a fire and I can't back up my
words on that. However, I can get the fellow that built it to tell you his findings on the rifle...flat out accurate in the right hands. I am trying to build
another one but time and money seems to be getting in the way. As far as the trigger pull, they DO need attention most of the time. There was a company called
FSE (First Son Enterprise?) that put out a trigger package that was fantastic and was a drop in improvement but they have gone out of business I think. Falcon
Arms makes a trigger pull reduction spring kit that helps, also. I guess to sum it up, of the three rifles, there really is no back seat to take...it's all
in what you like...IMHO.

I've got all 3 - Garand, M1A & FAL, also an M14.
I am Not a competition shooter so putting 5 rds in a nickel at 500 yds doesn't impress me at all! I'm a combat rifleman - 2 rds in the flat side of a GI 5 gal gas can at 200 yds on full auto is my standard of excellence. I would put the FAL at the top of the list followed by the Garand. I like those 2 so well that I almost never shoot the M1A or M14 and The FAL gets about 3X the use of the Garand. Either I got lucky and have a very good trigger on mine or you have had bad luck with what you got! My FAL is a select fire and I rarely shoot it semi, usualy 2 rd bursts.
