I don't think so...but I may be wrong. It was designed to be a heavy hitter over the 45 Colt.

Actually it was. The 45ACP was originally designed with a 200gr bullet for the Colt Model 1905 semiautomatic pistol. It was standardized with a 230gr bullet for the Colt Government Model 1911 pistol. And the history goes on for this fine weapon. Still can't understand why our military dropped it for the smaller and weaker WonderNine?
I believe the first true test of the 45ACP (in the form of the 1911) came during the war against the Moros in the Phillippines where it replaced the old .38 Long Colt Service Revolver that was then the standered US Military sidearm. The .38 proved ineffective as a stopper against the formidable forces of the Moros who basically fought with swords and knives but many Moros had captured Spanish 7mm Mausers and captured 30-40Krags. The American forces also had the 30-40Krag, Winchester shotguns, Vickers-Maxim machine-guns and mortars and artillery. But the "juramentados" were a force to be reckoned with. There is still much scepticism as to the 45ACP being a more capable manstopper in that war.
