My history learning sucks...what can I say. I have to go back to my books each time I want to know something that I have forgotten. That is the reason I stay away from some of the topics on Mausers and their history on this site. Thanks for the insight there Armyrat!

It seems that the our military and many law enforcement have juggled back and forth on sidearms. They want to be able to carry more ammunition, have less recoil and still have the knock down power. I still think the 45acp fits the bill for what is needed but, who am I. Another very good round that was passed on was the 10mm Auto. I have a Delta Elite and the firearm shoots great with (in my oppinion) about the same recoil as the 45acp. A VERY accurate round and could be developed in a hi-cap sidearm. The 40s&w bumped it off as the choice in law enforcement because of recoil, which I really don't understand. It would seem that the "Higher-Ups" have some distorted view that our military is made up of pamzy-wamzy soldiers and that recoil is a big issue. However, I do think that the Garand and M14 would have been some heavy rifles to carry day and night. But those are some heavy hitters, and that is what's needed. I'm not trying to get bashed here but, the 30.06 was a bit of over kill in my view. That is one heck of a powerful round and is even over kill for most of the hunting in the U.S. The 7.62NATO would seem to be a choice that's hard to beat and the little 5.56 is just too small....the same for the 9mm Luger round.
