In my opinion the 308 is all that ones needs in getting game in the USA. I believe it is probably the best round in combat as it can be used for riflemen, squad machine-gunners and Snipers out to several hundred yards with great accuracy. I trained on the M-14 in basic in early 1969 and was later trained on the M-16 with the 5.56 before I shipped to Nam. I loved both but rathered the M-14 for sheer power. But, the 5.56 is a good round and proven in close quarter and even beyond. It gets the job done.

Once thought about buying the BrenTen in 10mm back in the mid 80's. I think it is a very powerful cartridge, much like the revolver version of the 41MAG. But it went by the wayside just as the 41MAG. I still think both are very good cartridges. And both better manstoppers than the 40S&W. The Colt Delta Elite was a very fine weapon developed to handle the power of the 10mm. (And the 40S&W better than the 9mm)
The 9mm , or should I say the "WONDER NINE" has made improvements over the many years of it's existance but compare it to the improved ammunition of the modern 45ACP and it falls short. In a semi-auto pistol, I want nothing less than a 45ACP, or 10mm. In a revolver pistol I prefer the 357MAG over any other caliber. 41MAG being my next choice.
If I had to pick one handgun for combat, personal and home defense and hunting, I would choose the Ruger GP100 with a 6" stainless full underlug barrel in 357MAG and have no regrets about my choice.
