I can't really tell you what the savings would be by reloading, 'cause the more I reload, the more I shoot!
As far as different brands of equip., the folks on the reloading forum could poke you in the right direction.
I was lucky enough to get into it with out any initial investment. My son & I have several Mausers between us & had talked about the availibility & cost of good, accurate ammo. SO..., last year for my BD, he bought me a Rock Chucker Supreme Master Reloading Kit (pretty good kid, eh?).
To reciprocate, I bought him another Mauser. Then, to escalate the family arms race, he got me another one. It never ends.
Anyway, I get alot of joy from reloading. The only comparison I can give from personal experience is the satisfaction of playing a musical instrument that you have hand crafted yourself.
