hello Mauser forums,

just a brief update to mention I've received a reply from Germany, as follows. This is from an independent expert who received my inquiry from Mauser:
---------------------------------

"......The variousity of Mausers is unbelievable. But all carefully listed production-data at Mauser is destroyed by an American Officer after occupy of the plant in 1945.

Your rifle is a Mauser "Wehrsportgewehr" (Training Rifle) which had been produced for civilians and for the political party for pre-Army shooting education. Therefore it looks like a Karabiner 98. Various German companies produced similar rifles. They all left the factories without scopes, some without stocks. Whenever scopes are mounted by a local gunsmith. Your "Zielklein" is historical correct on this rifle. Elevation works: Vertically integrated in the scope, sometimes fixed with a lock screw. That can be a outstanding one or a black one between three silver ones (do not loosen the silver ones !!!). Horizontally integrated in the mount, usually two screws opposite which lock each another."
----------------------------------

A big 'thank you' to you guys, and to Mauser for your help and advice. I'll sell the rifle, since I'm left-handed and not a collector. I bought it for rabbit hunting here in NSW but this rifle is too nice to get knocked around in the truck. If anyone's interested, please ask Zod for my e-mail address? The rifle can be sent to North America by UPS. All the best, Andrew
