For years I've been into the class III thing but a family friend recently gave me a k98, dated 1938 with a 1937 sling. Now my curiosity is peaked. All numbers match on the gun except those on the bolt. Am I correct in assuming that all numbers on the bolt must match those on the rest of the gun to be considered "matching"? The bolt has a small eagle stamped on top and near the breech so I assume its German.
I'm considering rust bluing the gun and have been pleased with the finish on others(not Mausers) I've done in the past. Any idea what process was used on these-slats or rust blue?
Were but plates blued or left bright?
The sling buckle is stamped but hard to read --
Koch & ......
Wuppertal
1937. Anyone know the rest of the myster name?
Many Thanks
Dave
