I have a 1911-A1 Springfield that I worked up a couple of years ago and it ended up being very accurate. I have only handloaded 185gr Sierra Match bullets for
it but it was broke in and tested with 230gr FMJ "white box" Winchester ammo. Seeing how my checking account has been put on a diet, I decided to
work up some loads with 230gr Winchester bullets...I have about 500 of them and only 22 of the Sierras. I made up some dummy rounds at 1.275" O.A.L. and
tried them for function through the handgun. They chamber fine but will not eject as the nose of the bullet hits the slide as it tries to kick out. I can't
afford the machine work to lower the ejector port and notched for the bullet nose for the slide. And I really don't want to start grinding on the slide
myself...me and my Dremel have had better days as of late...just don't trust myself. So, how short can the O.A.L. be on the 45acp with 230gr FMJ bullets
without causing high pressure problems? And, if any of you have a box of Winchester FMJ (230gr), could you let me know what the OAL is? Thanks.
