I have received my grandfathers 8MM Mauser, I have tried to do some research on-line about the rifle, but I have been unable to see a rifle that looks similar. These are all the markings that appear on the gun; it says mod. 98 on the side of the gun, on the top of the gun it has the year 1940 on it and about 1/2" above that it says 42, there are several Nazi eagle stamps, the number 8012 a, and 655 with what look like wings above it, there are also several small stamps that say WaA655 with the same looking wings above them. I've learned that the gun was made in Obendorf Germany, but that is about it. It looks like it has seen some battle over the years. The main difference that I can tell is that mine doesn't have an attachment for a bayonet. I a trying to get any other info on this historic and awesom gun that any one can provide me with. Thank you.
