I bought my first mauser rifle at an estate sale. Pretty good condition, marked "DOU" and 43. None of the serial numbers match, it's no collectors item, but I was just wanting it as a shooter. Here comes the stupid newbie part...I didn't check it over as close as I should have before buying, and after learning how to take the gun down I found that the cocking ramp on the cocking peice was broken. I ordered another cocking peice, and was able to install it with no problems, but the sear ledges are shorter on the new cocking peice. Are all cocking peices interchangeable, or is this a problem? It appears to @#%$ when I cycle the bolt, and I banged it around a little, it didnt fire by itself. Also, I have seen people talking about "headspace" concerns. Is that a common problem, and is there some was I can check that? I beg forgiveness for my ignorance in advance...
